The Love Song - Part 1
It was late afternoon in George Town, Malaysia. Richa was driving towards her grandmother's place which was six hours drive from the city. It was going to be long drive as well as long weekend. She switched on the radio to wile away the time. "We are expecting heavy downpour tonight .", the weatherman said. She huffed. It wasn't something new in a tropical island.
In midst of journey , traffic started piling up. The four lane highway that once used to be empty, was jam packed with traffic. However the opposite two lane had heavy traffic. She wondered whether it was safe to continue with the journey. Later she realized that she would reach her grandmother's home before the storm started and sensing the traffic on other side, it wasn't wise to head back since she would be stuck in the storm.
She continued to drive. The thoughts of cancelled plans revolved in her head. She had been planning since two weeks to meet her friends from Australia who were visiting the country this weekend. Unfortunately she had to cancel her plans as her grandmother was insisting her several times to meet her. When she tried to back out , her grandmother emotionally blackmailed her and she had no choice but to visit her.
Richa sighed. The traffic had reduced as she continued towards the journey. She changed the FM channels constantly while focusing on the road. Finally she gave up and kept the FM tuned in to pop channel. The songs were tacky but it was fine to keep her mind away from distractions and silly thoughts.
She stopped at the small roadside restaurant to get quick bite. It took her half an hour to stretch her legs and have something light. As she got inside her car, she opened the glove compartment below the dashboard to store in bills. Before she could place the bills inside, she came across a snapshot of her kissing her ex boyfriend's cheek. She felt pinch of guilt and immediately stuffed it back inside with the bills. Later she closed the storage compartment with a bang.
She closed her eyes for few minutes. She wanted the feelings of pain to end and memories to never appear in her mind. But neither feeling cease to end nor the memories cease to reappear on her minds. They had shared an amazing relationship but his possessiveness turned it into a nightmare - a nightmare she had gotten out of a long time ago.
