Illusions - Part 18

What we see sometimes are not always true . They could be half truth or complete lie. Kabir had mastered the art of lie when he was toddler. He was manipulator and could influence people to believe his lie easily . He had convinced Shaina into believing how much he loved her and changed into new leaf due to her love. He was able to hide his greed with love . 

When he was introduced to his prey by his uncle, he had his eye on enjoying the golden egg alone. He didn’t want to share the proceeds with anyone by killing his beloved wife. For five years, he planned secretly on how to get his uncle out of his way. He successfully manipulated his uncle in believing that he had betrayed him for the girl . But it was just a half truth. He had betrayed him to enjoy the massive wealth for himself. His next target was his beloved wife. She had lost faith in him and he knew it wasn’t easy task to get it back.

Hence he got himself arrested to win her faith back. He knew she would eventually believe him. He sat on plush sofa in grand living room, smiling about the success he had achieved. Now he had no worries about anything. While he thought about his future , Shaina arrived with bowl of his favourite sweet dish.

“Hey, I haven’t seen you smiling so much since the time we married . You look content and peaceful.”, she said as she offered him the dish . “ You don’t know how I passed those two years thinking about you. Now I am happy to be back with you. How have you been , my love ?”, he spoke gently. “I had my share of sleepless nights thinking about you. Now that you are back, I can sleep peacefully.”, she replied calmly.

Kabir had two spoonful of his favourite sweet dish. It tasted bit different. He didn’t complain. He assumed that  his taste buds must have deteriorated due to prison food . He smiled at her. Suddenly he felt stinging chest pain. He gently rubbed his chest for the pain to fade away. But it was growing rapidly. “What happened, darling ?”, she asked concerned. She got closer to him and sat down in front of him. She called out the staff for help . 

“Don’t worry . Everything will be fine. It will just pain for few minutes and then you won’t feel any pain at all . I only added few ounces of poison into the dish. It will take few minutes for the poison to work and you will be dead before the staff arrives to help you.”, she said calmly. He stared at her with astonishment. “You thought you could get away with your lies . No ! I knew it was one of your tricks to make me believe that you fell in love with me suddenly . You easily betrayed your family and uncle. You thought I will fall into trap so easily. I am not them.”, she whispered angrily and rose up immediately. “Now I can sleep peacefully watching you die .”, she said with her arms crossed. When the staff arrived, she pretended as if she was concerned about what was happening to her husband. The medics arrived soon but couldn’t save him . The cause of his death was labelled natural . Shaina got back to her normal life. She no longer had nightmares and slept peacefully.
