Flight EK 666 - Part 2
She felt bit nervous while waving at her family. It wasn't her first trip away from family. She calmed herself down , reminding how hard she had worked to get this assignment and it was going to be six months. The six months would pass quickly. When she reached the entrance of airport, she handed her documents to the security guard. The guard took her documents mechanically. He surveyed the document as he was expected to and handed it back to her.
She sighed. She held the passport and ticket tightly and dragged her trolley bag to the check in counter. There was a long queue. Some of them were on vacation; some of them were on business trip like her and some of them were taking flight to London with stopover in Dubai. Most of them were excited while some seemed bored or sleepy.
She watched people in front of her complain about the slow moving queue. She smiled. Her nervousness was settled. She was excited to land in Dubai. It was her first trip to Dubai. She had heard a lot about the city from her friends. She was jubilant to experience the same. The family ahead of her rushed to the counter when it was their turn. They handed their tickets to ground staff at the counter and placed their suitcases on baggage drop area one by one. It weighed above the maximum weight they were allowed to carry. The staff asked them to either reduce the weight of their bags or pay excess charge. The family fought shamelessly for their right.
After few minutes, their fight was stopped by the other ground staff who calmly explained the procedure. The family didn't want to lose their ticket price for small fight , obliged to pay the excess fee. It was Tina's turn at the counter. Everything went smoothly. She got the window seat she wanted and the weight of her huge trolley bag was on par with limit. She smiled as she walked towards the immigration.
It was short queue at immigration. The checks finished quickly and she headed toward gate after stopover at duty free shop. She glanced through the shop, finding nothing to amuse her. She sat near to boarding gate. She wanted to be first one to board the flight. She had an hour to pass. She got back to reality. The memories were so fresh. When she checked the time again, she saw she had few minutes before boarding call. She made quick calls to her brother.
Her brother picked up the call instantly unlike other times when he would take his own time to pick the call. He put her call on speaker. "What are you up to ?", she asked. "He's always on the phone, doing something.", their mother complained. She laughed. "I am doing something important. I am writing a story.", he argued. "What story?", she asked. "It's ghost story. Do you want to hear?", he said in spooky voice. "No! I don't have time. I have to board in sometime.", she quipped. "Who wants to hear your story?", their mother complained. He sighed in disappointment. There was quick announcement. The flight was being delayed for an hour. Everyone cried out their disappointment. "Ok, tell me your story.", she said disappointingly.
