The Curfew - Part 9

They walked uphill where the temple was located. Tiny sounds of dancing leaves gave them goosebumps. The torch light from their phone didn't help them much. However they kept their pace though they tripped several times. Diya felt uneasiness in her tummy. She stopped. Deepika and Rohan turned behind to check on each one of them. They found Diya bent slightly. Her expression showed that she wasn't well.

They got closer to her to understand the situation. "What happened ?", Deepika asked. "I can't walk anymore. My stomach aches.", her sister replied. "It's just five more minutes and we will be there.", Deepika stressed. "You can bear this. We only need five minutes. You can rest there. We will be safe there.", Rohan tried to persuade her. Diya sulked in pain. She managed to get the energy to bear the pain.

They began walking, helping Diya to walk. Their pace was slow now. Rohan felt remorseful, looking at his sister in law's condition. He wished he had taken his wife's words seriously. He began blaming himself for all the troubles. " I am sorry, Diya", he whispered to himself. Suddenly they heard movement in nearby bushes. They assumed it was monster and quickened their pace. While walking, they turned back to see if their assumption was right. A hare ran out from the bushes. They giggled.

They turned their gaze towards the direction they were walking. They stopped walking suddenly. They were stunned to find the demon standing in front of them. Fear re surfaced in their hearts, crippling their ability to think rationally. They held each other tightly. Diya felt nauseous. She couldn't control anymore and vomited everything she had in the day. She started crying uncontrollably. Rohan and Deepika consoled her.

The demon stomped towards them while they moved back. He stopped in front of the vomit and bent down to sniff it. Deepika directed her sister and husband towards left. They ran as fast as they could while Diya tried to keep up with them. The demon got up and started walking towards the direction they ran. "Where are we going ?", Rohan asked his wife while running. "Home ! This is shortcut towards home.",Deepika replied. They reached the doorsteps of their house while Diya was lagging behind. They started the knocking the door. Roopa quickly opened the door. Deepika and Rohan came in. Before Diya could enter, the monster came in front of her. Her family looked aghast. Roopa cried loudly. "Close the door !", Diya screamed back and ran towards right direction while demon turned behind and stared at Roopa. She closed the door quickly. Everyone heard the demon's loud cry.  They cried helplessly at Diya's condition.
