The Uber Ride - Part 5
He woke up to usual morning. The sun shined brightly. The memories of yesterday's night gave him shivers. The disappearance of his client, the shadow in middle of road and a sedan driving right into his car seemed like scenes from horror movie. He was sure that no one would believe him. It was Sunday - only day when he was free from burdens of work and life.
He got up from the bed and dragged himself to bathroom. He washed his face and brushed his teeth. He changed into casual jeans and top. He sprayed whole bottle of deo onto his body. He checked his face in the mirror. The horrors of yesterday night still reflected in his eyes. He walked downstairs to dinning area. His mother prepared rice porridge for breakfast. She could smell his perfume.
“Did you just take bath in perfume, son?”, she taunted. He smirked and replied, “No, ma. Can you bring breakfast soon? I am starving.” “Don’t lie, I can smell the perfume.”, she said loudly. Lee didn’t reply. “Anyway, I heard some news yesterday. There was accident at the highway to Sri Petaling two days back . A foreign man died in that accident . He was an European tourist on business trip. He had rented a car to visit his beloved wife’s tomb at midnight .”, she continued.
The foreign tourist reminded him about someone. How could he forget that spooky ride? “Is the same guy I gave ride to?”, he wondered. He had taken the same highway.“Lot of spooky things happen at that highway. That highway is cursed.”, she said cautiously. “Ma, please don’t start again.”, he said irritatedly. “What do you mean? I heard many people talk about spooky encounters on that highway.”, she argued.

He wanted to share his encounter. But he thought that it would simply make her more worried. “You don’t take that highway. It’s dangerous.” , she warned. He smiled, hiding his fear. “Promise me, you will not take that highway during midnight ?”, she asked.
He didn’t say anything. He looked at her. She was still stirring the porridge on the stove. He wouldn’t take any midnight rides even in his dreams. He simply said, “I promise !”
