The Uber Ride - Part 3

The ride seemed quite. The man hardly spoke. Lee kept quiet. He was never good at starting any conversation. He momentarily checked his rear view mirror to see what the man was doing. The man sat in upright position with his eyes closed. It seemed like as he was meditating. He didn't disturb him. He continued to drive.

Suddenly he saw a shadow of man clad in complete black suit in middle of the lane he was driving.  His sudden apply of brake jerked the car to stop. His heart was on his mouth. He almost thought that he had hit the man. But there was no man. He got out to see where the man was. There was no one in road except for chilled air blowing across him. He felt strange. He wasn't driving in the mountains and it wasn't cloudy. The city never experienced winters as it was located near to equator. He got inside the car immediately.

"What happened ?", the passenger asked. Lee shivered and turned behind to speak. He had almost forgotten about his passenger. "I thought I saw someone on the road.", he replied, still thinking about the man he had seen on the road. "Oh ! Strange !", the passenger said curiously. " I got out to see. But he wasn't there.", Lee continued. "You must be dreaming. Why would anyone stand in middle of road at this hour? Or maybe that mad man must have ran away.", the passenger said.

Lee nodded. He started the engine and continued to ride. Again silence took over. He was bored by the silence. He looked at the rear view mirror. The man went back to meditation. Lee turned the radio on to lowest volume. He didn't want to disturb the man. The light music entertained his ears. He tapped his fingers on the steering wheel to the beat.

His gaze momentarily shifted to rear view mirror. The sight frightened him. The same shadow of a man he had seen on the road was sitting next to his passenger. He felt numb for sometime. He tried to speak but there was no voice. The creepy man had no pupil in his eyes. It was blank white. His face was like glistening moon. There was no expressions. His hair was properly brushed. Not a single hair touched his face.

Lee finally found his voice. He screamed loudly and abruptly stopped the car. The shadow disappeared. The passenger opened his eyes in annoyance. "What happened? Why are you screaming?", he asked. "I saw a ghost.", Lee spoke shakingly. The passenger laughed. "You must be kidding. Do you think I am a fool?", the passenger asked angrily. "I am saying the truth. I saw a ghost. It disappeared before my eyes.", Lee replied. "I had enough of your shit. I will cancel this ride and complain Uber about this.", the passenger said firmly. Lee got scared. He didn't want to lose a customer and get poor feedback. "Please sir , don't leave. I am sorry. Let me drop you to your point. I won't bother you anymore during our ride.", he pleaded with folded hands.
